There are many wedding traditions and customs around the world. They differ from the religions to cultural and ethnic backgrounds and according to the countries and social classes. British traditional rituals make British Weddings memorable and with English Reformation the custom of having wedding services in churches were taking place since 1549.
A wedding is a ceremony where two people pledge one another to be in together rest of the life-time. The common tradition is to exchange rings; groom putting the ring to bride’s ring finger of the left hand and bride do so to the right hand of the groom saying “ I give this ring to you as a sign of our marriage…..”, in front of a priest or marriage Registrar. This is the first tradition of a wedding in a western ceremony.
A White Wedding Dress came in as a custom after Queen Victoria’s wedding that she wore a White Gown for her wedding in 1840’s. White resembles purity, unblemished and love. Modern brides use the shades of white according to their compliance.
White veil is another tradition in a wedding. The length of the veil changes time to time.
Face veil also wears in most of the church weddings. Traditionally it is removed by the groom’s mother or aunt after the service to show the acceptance of the bride.
Carrying a Bouquet of flowers by the Bride is another custom. It adds beauty to the bride and shows lasting love and romance. Ancient people believe the flowers take away the evil spirits.
Cutting a Wedding Cake and exchanging a piece among each other shows the loyalty among them. Groom’s Cake is distributed among guests is another tradition. The cake is a rich, brown wrapped in separate pieces decoratively and served to all the guests in the wedding.
Toasting is another custom in wedding receptions. Raising glasses together wish the couple best wishes together and long life for a happy wedded life. Any beverage can be used to toast but the champagne is the favourite
